I'm Desh. I write about food, travel, cricket, and the stories that fall between the cracks of those categories. I've been writing online since 2006, mostly because I can't help it.

The food writing comes from growing up in an Indian kitchen where every meal was a lesson in chemistry, patience, and family politics. The travel writing comes from a conviction that the best way to understand a place is to eat there. The cricket writing comes from a lifetime of watching the sport with an intensity that is probably unhealthy.

More recently, I've been experimenting with AI — building tools that sit at the intersection of language, culture, and technology. I'm particularly interested in how AI handles multilingual content, cultural context, and the messy reality of how people actually communicate.

On Cricket, Off Topic

I co-host a podcast called On Cricket, Off Topic, where we talk about cricket the way friends talk about cricket — with strong opinions, questionable analysis, and frequent digressions into everything else. Three seasons and counting.

This Site

This site is built with Astro, styled with Tailwind CSS, and hosted on Netlify. It's a migration from WordPress, where the archives lived for nearly a decade. The design is inspired by Medium and profgalloway.com — clean, text-forward, no clutter.
